PAK vs SL: Sri Lankan opener, Pathum Nissanka has recovered from Covid-19 and is available for the second Test against Pakistan. The Sri Lanka Cricket announced the development on Thursday.
Meanwhile, off-spinner, Lakshitha Manasinghe has been roped into the squad in place of Maheesh Theekshana. The latter has sustained an injury to his bowling hand in the series opener at Galle.
Notably, Theekshana injured his finger in his right hand and, therefore, has been ruled out of the second Test match. His replacement, Manasinghe is yet to make his debut for Sri Lanka.
He has played 17 first-class games and picked 71 wickets at an average of 26.38, including six five-wicket hauls. He recently made headlines after picking 13 wickets in two warm-up matches against Australia A.
Besides, Manasinghe is a handy batter as well. He has five domestic fifties against his name in domestic cricket. The second Test will be played in Galle and the spinners are likely to get a lot of assistance. Chances are high that Manasinghe will be making his Test debut as Sri Lanka would be looking to level the series.
It will also be interesting to see if Nissanka makes his back into the eleven. Oshada Fernando was his replacement in the last game and impressed with handy knocks of 35 and 64.
The management might not exclude him in the playing XI looking at his current form. The second Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan will begin on July 24.
On the other hand, Pakistan has also dealt with a big blow as Shaheen Shah Afridi has been ruled out of the second Test with a knee injury.
