The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a 17-player women’s squad for their ODI and T20I series against South Africa. The cricket governing body made the announcement on Thursday.

Top-order batsman Javeria Khan will serve as the stand-in captain of the team in the limited-overs series’, filling in for skipper Bismah Maroof. PCB had revealed on Wednesday that Maroof has pulled out of the South Africa tour stating family reasons.

All-rounder Kainat Imtiaz, batter Ayesha Zafar, batter Nahida Khan, and bowler Nashra Sandhu have rejoined the team for the South Africa tour comprising three ODIs and an equal number of T20Is.

“The squad has been selected after closely observing the players in the recent High Performance and probable camps and the National Triangular T20 Women’s Cricket Championship. We have seen significant improvement over the last three months in the intent and mindset of the players and the team is shaping up well for the upcoming series,” Pakistan’s national women selection committee chair Urooj Mumtaz said in the press release of PCB.

“Javeria Khan is an experienced campaigner and has the desired understanding of the game which is necessary to lead the national women’s team. She has undertaken this responsibility in the past and I am certain she will rise to the occasion and inspire the players,” Mumtaz said on putting Javeria Khan in charge of the captaincy.

The limited-overs series will take place in Durban and Pietermaritzburg, with the ODI series commencing on January 20 in Durban. The second ODI will also be hosted on the same venue on January 23rd. The teams will then travel to Pietermaritzburg on January 26 for their third ODI.

The first two T20Is are scheduled for January 29 and January 31 and will be played at Pietermaritzburg. The third T20I is slated for February 3 in Durban.
