Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday announced the appointment of Babar Azam as the captain of the national Test team. Babar Azam has been leading the limited-overs team ever since his appointment in May this year.

The board replaced dropped Azhar Ali as the Test skipper following his dismal record in the England tour this in August.

Babar Azam’s appointment means he will now be the cross-format skipper of Pakistan concluded after the board meeting today. His first assignment will be the ICC World Test Championship against New Zealand in December.

“Babar Azam was identified at a very young age as a future leader and as part of his progression and development, he was appointed white-ball captain last year,” Mani said.

“With his consistent performance and leadership skills, he has demonstrated that he is ready to take on the additional responsibilities of a captain” he added.

Babar Azam took over the responsibility of leading the side across all the formats gleefully as he said, “I feel truly honoured to have been appointed Test captain and join some of the most iconic players who have captained Pakistan in the purest format of the game. I can now say with conviction that dreams can come true only if you chase them with honesty, dedication and commitment”
