PM Modi writes an appreciation letter for MS Dhoni on his retirement

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi wrote an appreciation letter to Mahendra Singh Dhoni after his retirement on Thursday. Narendra Modi joined the nation and thanked the captain cool by stating “eternally grateful for all that you have done for Indian cricket in the last decade-and-a-half.”

MSD declared his retirement in the evening of August 15 as he received best wishes and love from all over the world for his life ahead. In the letter, PM wrote, “On 15th August, in your trademark unassuming style you shared a short video that was enough to become a long and passionate discussion. 130 crore Indians were disappointed but also eternally grateful for all that you have done for Indian Cricket in the last decade and a half.”

PM in his letter to Dhoni said that he will not only be remembered for is statistics or specific match-winning roles, but it will also be an injustice to look at you only as a sportsperson. He mentioned how MSD has come from a small town and he burst into a national scene encouraging and made India proud.

He wrote, “Where we come from does not matter as long as we know where we are headed- this is the spirit that you have exuded and inspired many youngsters.”

Dhoni has always been popular for his hairstyle and looks to which Narendra Modi wrote, “No matter what hairstyle you sported, your calm head remained the same in victory or defeat which is a very important lesson for the youth.”

PM also sent best wishes to Dhoni’s wife Sakshi and his Daughter Ziva as these things were not possible without their sacrifice. “I hope Sakshi and Ziva get to spend more time with you. I convey my good wishes to them as well, because without their sacrifice and support nothing would have been possible. Our youth could also learn from you how to balance professional and personal priorities…..”


Mahendra Singh Dhoni shared the letter on his official twitter account and wrote, “An Artist, Soldier and Sportsperson what they crave for is appreciation, that their hard work and sacrifice is getting noticed and appreciated by everyone. Thanks PM @narendramodi for your appreciation and good wishes.”
