PS vs SS: Perth Scorchers have made a winning start to their Big Bash League 2022-23 campaign as they beat Sydney Sixers by 38 runs on Saturday at Perth Stadium. The Scorchers didn’t make a great performance with the bat. The pace at Perth troubled the batters throughout the innings.

The opening pair of A Lyth (4 off 2) and du Plessis (14 off 12) didn’t last long, while the likes of Nick Hobson (8), Josh Inglis (13), and Turner (2) all got out cheaply. Half of the side went back to the hut for just 49 runs on the board.

Aaron Hardie then joined hands with Ashton Agar and put in a fighting partnership of 71 runs for the 6th wicket. The duo helped the team reach the 100-run mark. Scorchers were in a pretty good position but Hardie’s wicket on the last ball of the 15th over helped the opposition come back into the game.

He got out after scoring 55 runs in 32 balls, including 5 fours and 3 sixes.

Wickets fell in quick succession after that as only 35 runs were scored in the last five overs. In the end, they notched a decent score of 155 runs in the first innings.

Bird picks up 3 for 26

For the Sixers, Bird was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 for 26 in 4 overs. Izharulhaq also made brilliant returns of 2 for 22 in 4 overs.

Given the bowling line-up that Scorchers have, a 155-run total looked enough for them and it did prove to be enough in the end. Jhye Richardson announced his comeback as he ran through the Sixers’ batting line-up. He claimed four wickets for just 9 runs in his quota of overs.

Five batters out of the top six in the Sydney Sixers’ bowling attack got out on single-digit scores as they lost five wickets for just 31 runs on the board. Jordan Silk (41 off 32) and Hayden Kerr (42 off 35) then joined forces and led the comeback.

The duo stitched a 71-run partnership for the 6th wicket and threatened the take the game away. However, Jhye Richardson came to the team’s rescue and send Kerr back to the pavilion on the 17th over. Wickets fell in quick succession, thereafter, as Sydney Sixers were bundled out for just 117 runs, in the end. The likes of Jason Behrendorff (2 for 22) and Andrew Tye (2 for 26) also made great returns with the ball.

PS vs SS Brief Scores: Perth Scorchers 155 for 9 (Hardie 55, Bird 3-26) beat Sydney Sixers 117 (Kerr 42, Richardson 4-9) by 38 runs
