Kolkata Knight Riders is currently going through a rough patch in the ongoing IPL 2021 edition. The side has been losing back to back matches and only managed two win so far. Such scenario has been despite the presence of all the top guns available on the side.
While the side has lost five of its seven matches in this season so far, the latest loss against Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad. Another blow comes in for the franchise in the midst of a forgettable season this year.
Back to back losses was not enough for the side that another jolt comes on the way with two major players set to leave the team next month.
Shakib Al Hasan and Andre Russell to leave for PSL
Two of the best all rounders in the tournament Shakib Al Hasan and Andre Russell are reportedly expected to leave IPL by May 23 next month.
Both the players were roped in the draft of overseas players replacement for this season’s suspended Pakistan Super League. PSL 2021 is set to resume from June 1, which Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had confirmed last week.
PSL 2021 was suspended early in March due to the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases within the bio-bubble. But now the tournament is set to resume from June 1, within the bio-bubble maintained by a UK-based company.
And as per the protocols, the players are supposed to quarantine themselves for at least 7 days before joining their respective teams in PSL.
Both Shakib and Russell are in the list of the players picked as overseas replacement when PSL resumes. Therefore, both of them are most expectedly supposed to fly Karachi by May 23.
Shakib Al Hasan has been picked by Quetta Gladiators while Russell will don Lahore Qalanders’ jersey for the remaining season.
For now KKR’s chances of making into the playoffs looks meek but in case they manage to reach the playoffs, the absence of such players will surely be daunting.
