Rachel Priest, skilful and accomplished keeper-batsman, has unfortunately been strikes out of the list of centrally contracted New Zealand women players for 2020-21.

Preist, 34, made a comeback to the New Zealand’s cricket roaster last year but wasn’t able to get through the eight international games which she was a part of. Her not-so-impressive return with 60 runs from four matches at 15.00 has once again put the selectors in a contemplating situation of her presence in the team in international games to be played ahead.

The spot vacated by Rachel Priest will be filled by ace players like – Central Hinds keeper-bat Natalie Dodd and Wellington Blaze quick Jess Kerr, who will be playing international cricket for the second time in a row. Both the players were under the Development Contracts 2019-20 and moved up the line to occupy the senior positions in the team.

Natalie, who is already known for having 18 caps for the White Ferns since debuting in 2010, Kerr, on the other hand, made her debut earlier this year in the home series against South Africa.

It’s an acknowledgement of hard work and perseverance from both Jess and Natalie, culminating in a fantastic opportunity ahead of them,” head coach Bob Carter said after the 17-member list was made public. “Jess was an excellent addition to the group last season and impressed the coaching staff with her work ethic and commitment. We’re looking forward to her developing her game over the next 12 months.

“Natalie has impressed over several seasons at the domestic level having been in the top echelon of run-scorers while also showing her ability with the gloves. We see this as an opportunity to work on her skills and hopefully build on an international career that started many years ago.

“I’m happy the majority of our group can remain stable as we look for continual improvement and application from our players. We have an experienced core of White Ferns and want to ensure our younger, less experienced players have the chance to learn from them over the next 12 months.”

Along with Rachel Priest, Bernadine Bezuidenhout is another player to lose out the retainer on contract for the upcoming season while Amy Satterthwaite, who is on a maternity leave continues to be on the list of contracted players.

Contracted Cricketers for 2020-21: Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine, Natalie Dodd, Lauren Down, Maddy Green, Holly Huddleston, Hayley Jensen, Leigh Kasperek, Amelia Kerr, Jess Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Katey Martin, Katie Perkins, Anna Peterson, Hannah Rowe, Amy Satterthwaite, Lea Tahuhu.
