Ranji Trophy: Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced a 21-member squad on Monday for Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji Trophy knockouts slated to commence on June 6. Mumbai Senior Selection Committee comprises chairman Salil Ankola, Gulam Parkar, Sunil More, Prasad Desai, and Anand Yalvigi have selected 22-year-old Prithvi Shaw as the side’s skipper.
The 41-time Ranji champions and domestic heavyweights Mumbai have been placed in Elite Group D along with Saurashtra, Odisha, and Goa. They will play their league matches in Ahmedabad. Mumbai will face Uttarakhand in the quarterfinals.
The selectors have put their faith in Sarfaraz Khan, who had a good IPL season with the Delhi Capitals.
Armann Jaffer and Yashasvi Jaiswal, both young batters, have been chosen in the squad, as has veteran wicket-keeper batter Aditya Tare.
Mumbai has left Shivam Dube out of their Ranji knockout team. The 28-year-old all-rounder, who played for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, is sidelined due to a shoulder ailment.
Ajinkya Rahane, who has also been ruled out due to a hamstring injury, won’t be a part of this squad.
Dhawal Kulkarni, a veteran pacer, leads the bowling attack, which also includes all-rounder Shams Mulani and pacer Tushar Deshpande. Shreyas Iyer will be on national duty for the T20I series against South Africa.
Mumbai will face Uttarakhand in the quarterfinals from June 6 to June 10 in Bangalore. The other quarterfinals in the queue are Bengal vs Jharkhand, Karnataka vs Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab vs Madhya Pradesh.
