English medium pacer with a left arm Reece Topley withdrew from the final two weeks of the “The Hundred” competition. This is to guarantee that he will be fully fit for the forthcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.
The T20 World Cup 2022 will start in October this year. Topley has been a standout bowler for the English white-ball team this summer. He claimed 17 wickets in 10 games against England and South Africa. He said in a statement that over the last few weeks, he had been “feeling the effects of a busy summer more and more”.
“Taking a short break feels like a sensible precaution to avoid injury and the risk of a longer lay-off. Nonetheless, I am disappointed not to be contributing as the team enters a crucial period in the competition,” ESPNCricinfo quoted Topley as saying in a statement issued by his team Oval Invincibles.
Tom Moody expressed disappointment on Reecey Topley’s exit
Tom Moody expressed his disappointment at losing a player of Topley’s calibre at this stage of the competition. But he said that his squad “respects his decision.” He is the head coach of the Invincibles. In the upcoming days, the team is anticipated to sign a successor.
The left-arm pacer’s withdrawal has diminished the Invincibles’ hopes of making the playoffs. This is because he has five wickets to his team’s credit in four tournament matches this year.
After their match against Birmingham Phoenix on Tuesday, Invincibles will also lose two more foreign players. Sunil Narine will return to the Caribbean to play in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Mohammad Hasnain has been called up to Pakistan’s Asia Cup 2022 squad to take Shaheen Afridi’s place.
Hasnain’s successor has not yet been announced, however, Australian spinner Peter Hatzoglour has been named as Narine’s replacement.
