Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli nominated for ICC Player of the Decade award

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni and his successor Virat Kohli have been nominated for the ICC Men’s Player of the Decade Award.

The players who have have served the game from the last 10 years in the international circuit. Current skipper Virat Kohli has been nominated in all the five categories of the men’s award.

Seasoned off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin alongside seven other players have also been nominated for the coveted title.

Others in the list are Joe Root from England, Kane Williamson from New Zealand, Steve Smith from Australia, AB De Villiers from South Africa and Kumar Sangakkara from Sri Lanka.

Rohit Sharma and Mahendra Singh Dhoni have been nominated for ICC Men’s ODI Player of the Decade alongside Kohli, Lasith Malinga, Mitchell Starc, AB de Villiers and Sangakkara.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have also featured in ICC Men’s T20 player of the decade category with the list comprising of  Rashid Khan, Imran Tahir, Aaron Finch, Malinga and Chris Gayle.

The Indian skipper is the only player to have been nominated in all the categories including  ICC Spirit of Cricket Award. He averages over 50 across all the formats and also accumulated 70 centuries in all the formats since his career started.

He is also third highest run scorer after Australia legend Ricky Ponting (27,483 runs) and Sachin Tendulkar who has the most 34,357 runs.
