The Bangladesh head coaching position has been vacated by Russell Domingo. On Tuesday, he conveyed his decision to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), barely two days after the conclusion of Bangladesh’s home Test series against India, which the hosts lost by 2-0.

Domingo left for South Africa after the game for the Christmas break, but a statement from BCB cricket operations head Jalal Yunus implied that the board was no longer interested in Domingo.

We need a coach who can make a difference and have an effect on the team “Soon after the Dhaka Test, Yunus told reporters. Changes will happen soon. We’re attempting. We want a team that is very strong, can play well and is very competitive. We were almost able to beat India, but they are a tough team to beat. We beat England and Australia on this ground, but India is a tougher team in these conditions.

“Motivation is important in everyday life. We want a good coach, but he also needs to be a good teacher. At this level, there is less room to teach them skills, but the coach still needs to talk to the players after each series about how they did.”

Following Steve Rhodes’ dismissal by the BCB after the 2019 World Cup, Dominic Domingo was brought in as head coach in September. Under his leadership, Bangladesh triumphed in a one-day international (ODI) series in South Africa and at home against India, as well as twenty-over (T20I) series against Australia and New Zealand at home.

BCB president Nazmul Hassan stated on Wednesday in Dhaka during the final of a local cricket event that Bangladesh would like to “bring in more coaches” in the upcoming year.

However, the BCB has made it clear that they are not happy with Domingo because he is not aggressive enough in the locker room, as evidenced by numerous statements made over the course of the last few months.
