SA vs ENG: South Africa’s white-ball captain Temba Bavuma will miss the upcoming tour of England due to an elbow injury. Bavuma, who suffered the injury during the recent India tour, will need eight weeks to rehabilitate before beginning his return to play program. In his absence, the CSA has named David Miller and Keshav Maharaj as stand-in skipper for the T20I and ODI squads, respectively.

Gerald Coetzee, 21, has been given his first T20I call-up, while former Kolpak player Rilee Rossouw returns to the side for the first time since the 2016 T20 World Cup.

South Africa’s nearly two-month tour of the United Kingdom will conclude with a three-match Test series, the squad for which includes first-team regulars such as Rabada, Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram, and others who missed the previous assignment against Bangladesh due to a scheduling conflict with the IPL 2022. The series kicks off on July 19 with the first two One-Day Internationals at Chester le Street.

“The T20 format is a high priority for us at the moment because of T20 WC coming up in a few short months in Australia,” CSA Convenor of Selectors, Victor Mpitsang said.

“We are looking to give opportunities to players that we are interested in seeing and working out the best combinations, while also trying to balance our desire to maintain enough consistency within the set-up that the players are used to playing together as a team by the time they reach Australia for the World Cup. This series will go a long way in helping us achieve all of those objectives,” he added.

South Africa has not won a Test series against England since Graeme Smith led them to victory in England in 2012.

South Africa, on the other hand, is now second in the world Test championship, having won convincing home series against India and Bangladesh, as well as sharing an away series with world champions New Zealand.
