Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Wednesday confirmed the appointment veteran umpires Marais Erasmus and Adrian Holdstock for officiating in home series against Sri Lanka. Both the umpires will officiate in the two-match Test series.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) had earlier named Erasmus and Holdstock for officiating as the on-field umpire. Holdstock will be making his debut for officiating the longest format of the game, last officiated during the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup tournament in South Africa.

On his latest assignment, Holdstock said, “When you start your career, it’s something you always dream about and aspire to achieve. It’s the pinnacle of every umpires’ career. It’s been 14 years in the making with lots of sacrifices and commitments along the way, so I’m just very proud and stoked that the moment has finally come,”

Both Erasmus and Holdstock have played with each other during the early days of their career in the First-class cricket. Holdstock played under Erasmus’ captaincy during his First-class career that spanned for 16 matches.

“It will obviously be special because we played together all those years ago,” Erasmus of the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires stated.

“It’s also the first time I’m going to be umpiring alongside another South African at this level, which will be unique,” he added.

This will also be the first time that two umpires from the home country will officiate in the home team’s fixture since 1992/93 against India.

The first Test will begin on the Boxing Day (December 26) at the SuperSport Park, followed by second match at Johannesburg between January 3-7.
