The South African team has ruled out Glenton Stuurman from the Test squad, which will play against Sri Lanka in the second Test between South Africa and Sri Lanka. Stuurman was released after suffering from a quadriceps muscle strain, consequently losing the opportunity of his debut match.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) revealed the news on their official Twitter handle. “Glenton Stuurman has been released from the Proteas Test squad after suffering a left quadriceps muscle strain,” CSA’s Tweet read.

In December, Stuurman had received his maiden call-up in the Test squad after Beuran Hendricks had tested positive for COVID-19 and had to be ruled out. The 28-year old was about to make his debut in the Boxing day Test, but a niggle stifled his opportunity. And now the pacer has even lost the second opportunity due to the injury.

CSA had earlier announced this week that Hendricks has rejoined the squad, after clearing all the COVID-19 entry protocols.

After a fantastic win by a monumental margin of an innings and 45 runs in the Boxing Day Test at Centurion, the Proteas is leading the series by 1-0.

The second Test between the two teams will commence on January 3, 2021 at the Wanderers Stadium in Sandton.
