The cricket administrative body of the country revealed on Wednesday that armed bodyguards have been arranged for Shakib Al Hasan with regards to the death threats he received for participating in a Hindu ceremony.

Apparently, the cricketer had attended the inauguration of a Kali Puja pandal in Kolkata on November 12, which was taken in a bad taste by the Islamic groups of Bangladesh, making him the latest target of their rage.

Apprehensive over the matter, chief executive of Bangladesh Cricket Board Nizamuddin Chowdhury said, “The threat is concerning. We took immediate measures and also informed the relevant security agencies. They are also taking the necessary steps.”

On Tuesday, the Police took into custody a man who had threated the topliner all-rounder on a Facebook live video.

The Bangladesh Home Minister, Asaduzzaman Khan was very critical of the matter. He said, “I have inquired about the matter. We have decided to take strong action against such criminal acts committed by the person. Threatening cricketer Shakib Al Hasan or anyone is not a part of our culture and we are committed to keep our country safe from such forces.”

Following the criticism by the Islamic communities, Hasan had presented a public apology on Monday for his action. Certain Islamic groups of the Muslim-dominated nation highly condemn any participation in the activities of other religions, and hence, the player was targeted. Additionally, he clarified that he did not travel to the country for the Hindu ceremony, but to attend an event organized by his fans. The event took place in the vicinity of the pandal that led to the misunderstanding.

The player is currently in Dhaka for an upcoming domestic Twenty20 tournament.
