SL vs AUS: Sri Lanka made an outstanding comeback in the second ODI against Australia as they beat them by 26 runs on Friday. Batting first, Sri Lanka managed to score 220 runs in the first innings. Both the openers, Pathum Nissanka (14) and Gunathilaka (18) got starts but couldn’t convert those into big scores.

Kusal Mendis (36 off 41) and Dhanajaya de Silva (34 off 41) made notable contributions with the bat, while skipper Dasun Shanaka also played a handy knock of 34 runs in 36 balls. As a result of that, Sri Lanka managed to score 220 runs in the first innings.

Pat Cummins starred with the ball for Australia, picking 4 for 35 in 8.4 overs. Besides, the likes of Maxwell and Kuhnemann picked two wickets each. In reply, Australia was bundled out for just 189 runs on the board. David Warner held firm at one end but Aaron Finch (14 off 15) got out early. Dhananjaya de Silva then cleaned up Warner (37 off 51) in the 14th over.

Steve Smith (28 off 35) and Travis Head (23 off 24) both were looking good but couldn’t convert those into big scores. Later, Marnus Labuschagne (18 off 30) and Alex Carey (15 off 20) also failed to produce match-winning knocks. Glenn Maxwell showed some fight and scored 30 runs in 25 balls but he too couldn’t play for too long.

Wickets kept falling at regular intervals and, in the end, Australia fell 26 runs behind the target. A collective effort from Sri Lankan bowlers helped them register a win in the second ODI. Chamika Karunaratne picked 3 wickets, while the likes of Chameera, de Silva, and Wellalge picked two wickets each. With that win, the series is now levelled at 1-1.

SL vs AUS Brief Scores: Sri Lanka 220 for 9 (Mendis 36, de Silva 34, Shanaka 34, Cummins 4-35) beat Australia 189 (Karunaratne 3-47) by 26 runs (DLS method)
