SL vs PAK 1st Test: Pakistan stun Sri Lanka, win by 4 wickets

SL vs PAK 1st Test: Pakistan outplayed Sri Lanka to register a stunning victory in the first of the two-match test series by four wickets. With this, Pakistan takes a 1-0 lead in the series. Opener Abdullah Shafique remained not out on 160 to anchor the chase for Pakistan.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Sri Lanka failed to earn a mark in the first innings as they were all out for 222. Dinesh Chandimal scored a crucial knock of 76 runs whereas Maheesh Theekshana contributed 38 runs in the end.

For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi starred in the bowling attack as he registered the figure of 4/58 whereas Hasan Ali scalped 2 wickets for 23 runs.

Pakistan’s first innings was a blizzard as the visitors were bundled out for a mere total of 218. Captain Babar Azam led the charge for his side as he scored the most astonishing knock of 119 runs.

For Sri Lanka, Prabhath Jayasuriya was the pick of the bowlers as he registered a fascinating figure of 5/82. Spinner Ramesh Mendis supported Jayasuriya to chip in a couple of wickets.

Taking a lead of only four runs, Sri Lanka was captivated by their woes in the first innings and put up a challenging score of 337 runs. Dinesh Chandimal once again led the charge and scored an unbeaten knock of 94 runs. Kusal Mendis stood strong at the other end and scored a vital knock of 76 runs.

For Pakistan, Mohammed Nawaz recorded his maiden five-wicket haul whereas Yasir Shah scalped three wickets for 122 runs.

Chasing a stiff total of 342 runs, Pakistan encountered the chase on the final day of the match. Opener Abdullah Shafique remained unbeaten on 160 as he streamlined the chase for his side. Skipper Azam once again proved his calibre by scoring 56 runs.

For Sri Lanka, Prabath Jayasuriya stood as the frontline bowler as he registered a figure of 4/135.

With this, Pakistan gained points at the World Test Championship and is now in 4th place in the WTC points table.
