The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) president Saurav Ganguly has heaped praises for Parthiv Patel after he announced his retirement on Wednesday. Parthiv announced that he is retiring from all forms of the game.
Ganguly expressed his admiration for the former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman and hailed him as a ‘brilliant ambassador’ of Indian cricket. He especially applauded him for his contribution to domestic cricket in the country. While reminiscing his exceptional performance during the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy, the BCCI president congratulated Patel on a ‘fantastic career’. The player had smashed a spectacular century in a memorable match for the Gujrat side while leading the team.
“Parthiv has been a brilliant ambassador for Indian cricket. He has always been a team man and it was a pleasure to captain him when he made his international debut at the age of seventeen. His hard work has earned him laurels in international and domestic cricket,” the BCCI president said in a statement released by the cricket governing body.
“I congratulate him on a fantastic career and wish him the very best for his future endeavors. His performance in the Ranji Trophy final to win Gujarat their only title will always be remembered in the history of Gujarat cricket,” Ganguly said.
Parthiv Patel has had an outstanding international as well as domestic cricket. He is the youngest wicketkeeper to make his Test debut. Patel has played 25 Tests, 38 ODIs, and 2 T20Is in which he has registered 934 runs, 736 runs, and 36 runs respectively. He has impressive numbers in domestic cricket. Playing 194 First-class games, Patel has scored 11240 runs and 5172 runs in 193 List A matches.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah also praised and acknowledged the contribution Patel has made to Indian Cricket. He said, “Parthiv Patel has always played his cricket with passion. While he played some hard-fought cricket for the Indian team, his contribution to domestic cricket shall inspire future cricketers.
“It was a tremendous feat to lead Gujarat to a maiden Ranji Trophy triumph in the 2016-17 season, a testimony to his astute leadership qualities. BCCI congratulates Parthiv on a successful journey and for his contribution to Indian cricket,” he further added.
