Welcome to our live blog, but this time, it is about the South Africa 3TC Solidarity Cup. We’re all new to this one now, aren’t we?
The three-team game – a brainchild of Cricket South Africa to be played in the Centurion – marks the return of cricket in the country post the Covid-19 pandemic break. The purpose of the game is to raise funds for people in the game who have suffered financially because of the deadly pandemic.
Here are some rules of the game:
Three teams, skippered by AB de Villiers, Reeza Hendricks and Bavuma, will compete against each other in a single match of 36 overs. Each team will bat for a 12 overs, facing six overs from each of their opponents’ attacks. Bowlers will be allotted three overs each.
In the second half of their innings, teams will bat in order of the highest scores made in the first half. The last batter will stand, meaning they stay at the crease after the fall of the seventh wicket and until they are dismissed. If a side are seven-down by the end of the first half of their innings, the last batter resumes in the second half.

Takealot Eagles: AB de Villiers (captain), Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, Kyle Verreynne, Andile Phehlukwayo, Bjorn Fortuin, Junior Dala, Lungi Ngidi. Coach: Geoffrey Toyana.

But hey, here’s the good news – AB de Villiers is back! The good news is followed by a dampener – Quinton de Kock has withdrawn at the last minute.
Alright then, we’re done with the national anthem and are all set for the game to begin. But before that, an important gesture – South Africa joins in the racism debate and CSA has just tweeted about their solidarity against racism and gender-based violence.
