Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh: The fifth match of the Asia Cup 2022 sees Sri Lanka take on Bangladesh at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday. Both teams lost their first match and it will be a must-win game for the sides. The winning team will find a spot in the top-four, while the losing team will go home. Interestingly, both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have suffered defeats at the hands of Afghanistan.
Afghanistan beat Sri Lanka by 8 wickets. Batting first, Sri Lanka were folded for just 105 runs on the board. The openers made an awful start as the likes of Pathum Nissanka (3), Kusal Mendis (2), and Asalanka (0) went back to the hut cheaply. Sri Lanka would expect them to give a strong start on Thursday.
Rajapaksa top-scored for them with 38 runs in 29 balls, while Gunathilaka scored run-a-ball 17. Both are talented batters and will hold key to the team’s fortunes. Skipper, Shanaka got out on the very first ball. He too will have the responsibility of giving the team a strong finish.
With the ball, Hasaranga will be the biggest bet, while Maheesh Theekshana will also be the one to watch out for. Pathirana had a forgettable outing and he could be dropped in the next game. Sri Lanka is a very strong unit and one can expect them to bounce back.
On the other hand, Bangladesh are coming into this game on the back of a 7-wicket defeat at the hands of Afghanistan. A solid bowling display from Afghanistan led to Bangladesh getting bundled out for just 127 runs on the board. M Hossain was the only bright spot for them, amassing 48 runs in 31 balls.
Once again, the responsibility will be on the experienced shoulders of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim to score the bulk of runs. Having said that, openers Naim and Amanul should look to give a solid start at the top.
The pacers didn’t have a great outing in the last game and, once again, you should expect the likes of Shakib Al Hasan and Mahedi Hasan to do most of the damage with the ball.
