STA vs SIX: The 31st match of the Big Bash League 2022 will have Melbourne Stars take on Sydney Sixers on Friday at Melbourne Cricket Ground. The two teams have had contrasting fortunes in the competition so far.

Sydney Sixers have a 50:50 win-loss record this season

The Sydney Sixers have blown hot and cold this season. In 8 matches, they have managed to win 4 games but still find themselves sitting at number three on the table. Sixers’ last match was called off, while they lost against Brisbane Heat by 15 runs in the second last game.

They would be desperate to get back to winning ways. Against Brisbane Heat, the Sydney Sixers’ bowling unit was at the receiving end of some brutal hitting as Brisbane Heat notched a massive score of 224 runs.

The fans would expect a better bowling display from the Sixers in the next match, especially on a bigger ground in Melbourne. They, however, batted brilliantly and managed to score 209 runs, in reply to the target.

James Vince made 41 off 24, while Jordan Silk amassed 41 off 23. The other batters also chipped in with handy contributions and this is a big positive for them going into the next game.

Melbourne Stars’ batting woes a concern

Facing them are Melbourne Stars, who have had a forgettable season. They are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table, having managed to secure only 2 wins out of 7 matches. The Renegades beat them by 33 runs in their last match.

The Stars did well to restrict them to 141 runs in the first innings. Boult (2 off 23), Luke Wood (2 for 29), Zampa (1 off 18) returned with outstanding spells. However, it’s their batting that has disappointed this season.

The top four comprising Joe Clarke (0), Thomas Rogers (1), Webster (8), and Stoinis (6) got out on single-digit scores. Nick Larkin kept some hopes alive with his 48-run knock of 40 balls but he found little support at the other end. Melbourne Stars are out of contention for reaching the playoffs but they would be looking to end their campaign on a high.
