Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming has heaped praises on the England all-rounder Sam Curran after the first match. Curran landed in the UAE just three days before the match and trained for only one day before making into the playing XI.

The 22-year-old took one wicket in four overs and also scored a quickfire 18 runs off 6 balls with the bat. After the fall of fourth wicket, MS Dhoni was supposed to come and bat, instead he sent Curran to bat at number 6.

Curran was not the go-to all-rounder for CSK in the last season especially under the shadows of DJ Bravo last season. However, he defied everything in the first match against the Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener.

Fleming praised Curran for his stellar performance and how he filled the void left due to Bravo’s absence.

“Losing Dwayne (Bravo) was a big loss and Sam went a long way in filling that. The things that impressed us with Sam is his attitude first and foremost, almost the harder it gets the better he gets, his all-round skill component and the fact that the captain was able to trust him straightaway to go in at a crucial time and hit the way he did.” the franchise quoted Fleming as saying.

“Also with the ball, to be a part of it straightaway, almost stepping straight off the plane was a sign of his attitude and what he is going to bring to CSK for the next few years,” Fleming added.

Stephen Fleming gives update on Bravo’s injury..

Bravo is set to miss another game against the Rajasthan Royals in their second match-up of the tournament on September 22nd September. Fleming gave an update on Bravo’s injury and the team is monitoring the progress before every game.

“Bravo is progressing; we are working closely to get him up to 100 per cent. We’ve got three quick games in a row, so we’ll look at each game and monitor him each time we train. With Sam’s performance, it takes a bit of pressure off rushing Bravo back, but he’s one of the world’s best and to have him in the selection equation is very important to us.” Fleming concluded.
