Ace middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav is set to be inducted into India’s test squad after reports indicated that the newly appointed committee is considering his inclusion. Suryakumar will replace veteran all-round Ravindra Jadeja who is currently undergoing treatment after sustaining a knee injury. Jadeja was earlier named in the squad in October subject to his fitness.
According to the top BCCI sources, Suryakumar Yadav will likely be preferred over other national team members owing to his sublime form and exceptional performance in the recently concluded T20 World Cup and the ongoing New Zealand series.
The BCCI had earlier expelled the incumbent selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma and appointed a newly formed committee. The selection committee in consultation with the Indian team management had likely held talks and asserted Suryakumar’s inclusion after his consistent performance in the shorter formats of the game.
Former Indian Head Coach had also addressed the media earlier and called Suryakumar Yadav a three-format player. He mentioned that Yadav can definitely provide fruitful results with the red ball in Test cricket and the team should send him to No. 5 and flare his abilities to achieve successful results.
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav also stated in a press conference that he is willing to explore his abilities in the test format if he is provided with an opportunity. The Mumbai lad was earlier included in India’s test squad for England and New Zealand series but failed to make it in the XI.
Suryakumar Kumar’s splendid record in First Class
Suryakumar Yadav has a spectacular record with the red ball in the domestic circuit. He has scored over 5000+ first-class runs for Mumbai with a phenomenal average of 44.01. He has 14 centuries and 26 half-centuries recorded against his name.
It will be interesting to find out the official announcement by the selection committee. India will face Bangladesh in a two-match test series beginning on December 14.
