Mumbai Indians continues to stay atop in the IPL 13 as they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 5 wickets on Wednesday. It was sheer excellence from the MI pacers especially Jasprit Bumrah who orchestrated Mumbai’s dominance against the RCB.

It was the Mumbai Indians skipper Keiron Pollard who won the toss and decided to bowl first at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

RCB got a terrific start from the openers Devdutt Padikkal and Josh Phillipe who opened the innings for the first time this season.

The opening pair put up a partnership of 71 runs for the first wicket and boosted RCB’s chances of reaching 200 run mark.

But then Rahul Chahar got the first breakthrough of the match by trapping Phillipe for 33 runs in the 8th over. RCB’s middle order looked astonishingly rusty as none of the batsmen managed to capitalise on the terrific start they had got.

Barring Padikkal who top-scored 74 runs off 45 balls, all the RCB batsmen got out cheaply at a penny score below 20 runs.

With the help of Padikkal’s innings, the side managed to reach the total of 164/6 at the end of the 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick among the bowlers as he chipped in 3 wickets in his spell and throttled RCB’s batting lineup.

He also picked his 100th wicket of the IPL by dismissing the opposition skipper Virat Kohli. Coincidentally, Virat Kohli was also his first wicket in the Indian Premier League during his debut season.

Mumbai Indians started off the chase on a decent note with Ishan Kishan and Quinton de Kock opening the inning for them.

Mohammad Siraj got the first breakthrough for the RCB and cleaned Quinton de Kock for 18 runs in the 6th over. Suryakumar Yadav came in at the 3rd down and took over the charge and starting accumulating runs at an accelerated pace.

Yadav smashed an unbeaten 79* off 43 balls as he plundered as many runs from the RCB bowlers during the chase.

Subsequently, Mumbai Indians won the game with five balls to spare and as many wickets in hand. Following their 8th win of the season, Mumbai Indians also strengthened their place at the first place in points table.

Suryakumar Yadav became the man of the match for his match-winning knock that helped MI stay at the top.
