England all-rounder Tom Curran on Monday confirmed pulling out of the upcoming 10th edition of the Big Bash League. Curran cited that he would spend time with his family since he has been under the bubble during England’s home series.

Curran also followed the his team-mate Tom Banton who pulled out of the tournament citing the demands under the bubble. Banton was supposed to join Brisbane Heat while Curran was due to play for Sydney Sixers this year.

“I’m really sorry not to be playing in this year’s Big Bash. As you’ll already know, it’s been a very challenging year and I’ve been in bubbles since July” Curran said.

“I feel very lucky to play for the Sixers, I have loved my time with you all over the last two seasons and I can promise you, this decision was not taken lightly” he added.

He played for Rajasthan Royals in the recently concluded IPL and finished the tournament with 83 runs and 3 wickets. Supporting his decision, Sixers’ general manager Jodie Hawkins said, “The varying conditions we are asking our players to play cricket in worldwide is taking its toll and we understand Tom’s need for a break over this BBL season,”

“While the hub conditions here are much less restrictive than other tournaments, the constant requirement to lock down has been tough and our number one priority is the welfare of our players.

“Tom is an integral member of the Sixers family and we just want the best for him. We look forward to seeing him here next season,” she concluded.

Sydney Sixers will embark their BBL 10 campaign by squaring off against Hobart Hurricanes in the first match of the tournament on December 10.
