The fans are excited about the prospect of the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to start in the month of October. India and Pakistan will be locking horns in the group stage encounter on 24th October 2021, the ICC confirmed on Tuesday. Former Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir believes that it is important for India to take on Pakistan in the early stages of the T20 WC tournament as then they can focus on the other teams.

Gambhir cited the example of the T20 World Cup to explain his point of view. The Indian cricketer shared his opinion on Star Sports Game Plan.

“In 2007 as well, when we went out to win the World Cup, our first game was against Scotland, which was washed out, but then practically, our first game was against Pakistan. And that is exactly what I mentioned it is important to play Pakistan in the early stages of the tournament because what happens is — you don’t want to keep thinking about Pakistan — you can finish it off initially and concentrate on the entire tournament, and it is exactly the same for the fans and the country as well. Irrespective of what the result is, I am really happy for both the countries that they are going to play against each other in the initial stages.”

Due to the fear of the third wave of Covid-19 in India, the T20 WC 2021 would be co-hosted by Oman and UAE. Both the teams have been placed in the Group 2 round of the tournament and will play the first game of the qualification rounds on 17th October 2021. The final of the tournament will be played on 14th November 2021.
