India cricket team players have been fined 20% of their match fees for upholding slow over-rate in India versus Australia 1st ODI match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Friday.

Taking the time allocations into consideration, David Boon of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, the referee of the match imposed the sanction as team India was ruled to be one over short of the target. The sanction was imposed in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

The article relates to minimum over-rate offenses, according to which players are charged 20% of their match fee for each over their team fails to deliver in the allotted time.

Skipper Virat Kohli pleaded guilty to the offense and accepted the imposed sanction, thereby, avoiding the need for any formal hearing.
