In a big blow to Northern Superchargers, Indian cricketer, Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out of The Hundred 2022 due to a fractured wrist. Gaby Lewis will be replacing her for only two matches on either side of Ireland’s three-match ODI series against the Netherlands.

Notably, the Indian batter suffered an injury to her right wrist off Shakera Selman during India’s game against West Indies at the Commonwealth Games 2022. However, she continued to play in that game and ended up scoring the fifth most number of runs in the competition.

In her very first game of The Hundred 2022, she smashed 51 runs in just 32 balls while opening the batting against Oval Invincibles. It is worth mentioning that, she scored the most runs for Superchargers in the last edition of the competition.

This is the second occasion when Lewis will be replacing an Indian player in the competition in the competition. Last year, she replaced Smriti Mandhana towards the fag end of the league. Lewis will be available for selection for the game against Birmingham Phoenix on 19th August, and against Southern brave on 31st August 2022.

In between, she will be on international duty for the three-ODI series from 22nd August to 26th August between Ireland and Netherlands.

Speaking of her Superchargers call-up, Lewis said: “I am excited to be returning to play in the Hundred once again, after getting a taste for the competition last year. It will be a juggle of commitments between Ireland and the Superchargers, but I am keen to ensure I can contribute to both teams as fully as I can.”

Danielle Hazell, Superchargers’ head coach, said: “Despite only still being 21, Gaby has a wealth of experience and we have seen what she can do in the Hundred before. We feel she has an excellent skill set that will benefit our squad.”
