Trent Rockets continued their dominance at the top of the table as they registered their 6th win in the “The Hundred” 2022 tournament on Tuesday after beating Welsh Fire by 29 runs. The latter, on the other hand, continue to look for their first win in the tournament.

Batting first, Trent Rockets managed to put in 172 runs in the first innings. Their top-run getter, David Malan and Alex Hales put in an 89-run stand for the opening wicket. Malan played a handy 58-run knock in 37 balls.

On the other hand, Alex Hales contributed 38 in 29 deliveries. Later on, Daniel Sams played a valuable cameo of 31 runs in 14 deliveries, while Munro played an unbeaten knock of 22 runs in 11 deliveries. For Trent Rockets, all the bowlers barring Ish Sodhi managed to pick one wicket each. However, all of them proved expensive as well.

In pursuit of the run-chase, Welsh Fire could only manage to score 79 runs on the board. Openers Tom Banton (9 off 7) and Joe Clarke (15) couldn’t do much with the bat. Ben Duckett could score 25 runs in 21 deliveries, while Critchley scored 16 off 14.

David Miller scored 5 runs in 3 balls as Welsh Fire never got the impetus that they needed during the run-chase. The Rockets’ bowling unit never let them score easily. They bowled great lengths and Tabraiz Shamsi was the pick of the bowlers. He returned with figures of 2 for 10 in 15 balls. Samit Patel, on the other hand, picked 1 for 14 in 10 balls.

Both teams played their last league stage match. Trent Rockets have progressed to the knockouts, while Welsh Fire have ended their season here.
