India’s all-rounder, Deepti Sharma has been roped in by Birmingham Phoenix as a wildcard pick for The Hundred tournament’s upcoming edition. Birmingham Phoenix picked Sharma in the overseas draft for their women’s team, which was held earlier, today.

The other picks in the women’s section include Nicola Carey for Welsh Fire, Elyse Villani for Trent Rockets, Heather Graham for Northern Superchargers, Lea Tahuhu for Manchester Originals, Jess Kerr for London Spirit, Molly Strano for Southern Brave and Suzie Bates for Oval Invincibles.

For those of you who don’t know, Deepti Sharma is only the third Indian woman cricketer to be selected for the upcoming edition of The Hundred. Players like Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues played the inaugural edition last year. Their respective franchises have retained both.

Talking about the Men’s team, Ben McDermott and Mohammad Hasnain is the overseas wildcard picks selected for the upcoming edition. Each of the eight men’s and women’s sides has added a fourth overseas player to their squads but will only be permitted to field three in a matchday XI.

Hasnain, 22, was banned from bowling international cricket after having his action reported during a Big Bash League stint with Sydney Thunder in January but that suspension has now been lifted.

The Hundred Men’s competition 2022 will be played from 3rd August to 3rd September 2022. The competition will have 34 games in total. On the other hand, the women’s edition will be played from 11th August to 3rd September. All 26 T20 internationals will be played.

Southern Brave won the last edition of the Men’s Hundred tournament after beating Birmingham Phoenix by 32 runs in the final.
