The Hundred tournament team Birmingham Phoenix has signed Australian all rounder Ellyse Perry for the forthcoming competition this summer.
The competition organizers had already announced that women cricketers will get their contract roll-overs while the teams had option to retain or release men players.
Perry has become the new acquisition of the Phoenix that will be led by New Zealand’s skipper Sophie Devine. The 30-year-old Perry is one of the best all rounders in the women’s cricket and was also named player of decade by International Cricket Council (ICC) in December 2020.
The Hundred tournament (100 ball tournament) was supposed to take place last year but it was moved to this year in July due to coronavirus pandemic.
Perry will join the team ahead of the tournament which is slated to begin on July 21. The all-rounder expressed her joy after signing with the Phoenix as she said, “It’s always a special moment in the sport when something like this comes along,”
“I feel really chuffed that another country wanted me to come and play in their competition.” she added.
Birmingham Phoenix will play its first match against London Spirits just two days after the advent of the competition.
Perry comes in with a ton of experience in limited-overs cricket and played 112 ODIs and 120 T20Is and scored 3022 and 1218 runs respectively. Besides, 7/22 and 4/12 are her best bowling figures in ODI and T20I formats respectively.
