UAE Cricket aims to put Associate Cricket on front-foot of financial sustainability

The primary mandate of each Full Member and Associate Member of UAE’s ILT20 remains unwaveringly to grow the game at the domestic level. UAE cricket wants to find new talent, offer opportunities for success, and make the game sustainable. This commitment is made with the full support of its Franchise owners, sponsors, and stakeholders.

The ILT20 is not just a “cut-and-paste” of what is seen in the “T20 League” world, which is adopted by many Full Member leagues. This is what has drawn franchise owners to the model. These are Members who can afford the luxury of time to put structures in place to create a strong domestic pool. As well as the luxury of funding from the organisation that oversees their sport, the International Cricket Council. At ICC by comparison, UAE receives less than one-eighth of what a Full Member receives.

Those involved with the ILT20 strongly believe that it should be praised and supported as healthy competition. It will benefit players and the entire ecosystem of cricket. The ILT20 is an innovative, progressive model that aims to give those who demonstrate talent and commitment the opportunity to excel at its heart. And not be suffocated nor monopolised by the position of others within the game today.

The UAE’s academies and councils have put forward their chosen domestic players for consideration. Some have already been identified by the franchises themselves, and talks are in progress. This is done with the understanding that two UAE-developed players will be in each franchise’s playing XI.

The ILT20 has received a multi-year approval from the ICC, which bodes well for Associate Cricket. Exposing UAE’s players to high-level, international matches ratified by the ICC is a good thing for Associate Cricket.

ILT20 is still dedicated to developing a long-term financial and development plan for Associate Members and anyone who needs to look beyond ICC money as a fallback. Cricket will only be able to develop if international-level athletes, professionals, and sports administrators are exposed to such efforts.
