India’s former Under-19 captain, Unmukt Chand has become the first Indian player to be drafted into the Bangladesh Premier League. Chattogram Challengers roped him in for the upcoming edition of the BPL.

It is pertinent to note that the Board of Control for Cricket in India doesn’t allow Indian players to play in foreign leagues but Chand called it quits on domestic cricket after signing with the Major Cricket League in the USA.

During the second round of the foreign players’ category, India’s batter was picked by the Challengers. The upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League starts on 6th January 2022.

Unmukt Chand was also the first Indian player to participate in the Big Bash League last year. He plied his trade for Melbourne Renegades last year.

We have picked him (Chand) as we wanted to have an Indian in our squad plus we can also have a fan base in India,” Challengers owner Rifatuzzaman told the media after the draft.

Comilla Victorians, the 2019-2020 champions, had earlier bought the services of Mustafizur Rahman and they also managed to rope in Litton Das as they had the first pick in the draft.

“Yes, he (Liton) played for us and but we have picked Mustafizur (as direct signing) as we wanted to make sure that our bowling strength is not compromised. In that sense you can say we are lucky to have the first call and get Litton.”

The likes of Mahmudullah and Shakib Al Hasan will be playing for Fortune Barishal, while Sylhet Strikers have roped in the likes of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mashrafe Mortaza.
