Virat Kohli becomes fastest batsman to score 12,000 runs in ODI

Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Wednesday became the fastest batsman to reach 12,000 runs in One Day International cricket. He reached the milestone during the third and final ODI between Australia and India at Manuka Oval in Canberra.

The skipper took 242 innings to reach the milestone, also dethroned Sachin Tendulkar who took 300 innings to do so. Kohli took less than 250 innings in his as he laid another benchmark in his illustrious career with yet another record in his accolades.

He reached the landmark during the 13th over when he took a single off Sean Abott’s first delivery and got a great applause from the crowd. Kohli has managed an average nearly 60 in the ODI which is currently the best in the world.

The 32-year-old also became the sixth batsman to score 12000 runs after Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting (Australia), Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka), Sanath Jayasuriya (Sri Lanka) and Jayawardene (Sri Lanka).

Ponting took 314 innings, is now third in the list, followed by Kumar Sangakkara (336 innings) and Sanath Jayasuriya who took 379 innings.

Virat Kohli has scored 43 centuries in ODI so far, 26 of them have come while chasing the target. He is currentlynine centuries behind Sachin Tendulkar who has 51 centuries in the ODI format.

Besides, Kohli also has nine centuries against Australia across all the formats. However, the last time both the teams encountered at Canberra, Kohli scored a century but India suffered a humiliating loss. The Indian batsmen rattled down with nine wickets falling for just 46 runs.
