Looks like Virat Kohli didn’t have a good outing against the Kings XI Punjab on Thursday. The RCB skipper was fined Rs. 12 lakhs of his match fees following the slow-over rate.

Kohli maintained a slow-over rate in the match which the side lost by a an excruciating 97 runs in the end. It was not Virat Kohli’s day as he had already dropped the Kings XI counterpart KL Rahul twice in the inning. Later, KL Rahul went on to score his century and finished on 132* off 69 balls.

The Punjab skipper also became the fastest Indian to score 2000 runs in IPL and also became the highest scorer among the Indian players in the IPL.

Put a target of 207, RCB lost the opener Devdutt Padikkal and number 3 batsman Joshua Philippe. Virat Kohli had an upset with the bat as well after he gave his wicket to Sheldon Cottrell.

After the match, the referees imposed a fine of 12 lakhs on the RCB skipper as the IPL body released a statement: “As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh,”

The skipper took the brunt of the loss after no substantial contribution either with the bat and fielding as he said, “I have to stand in front and take the brunt of it, not the best day in the office, couple of important chances of KL when he was set and that cost us 35-40 runs at a later stage. Maybe if we restricted them to 180 we wouldn’t have been under pressure from ball one of the chase.”

RCB will now play against the Mumbai Indians in the third match of the season on September 28 in Dubai.
