Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has denied a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to spinning maestro Wanindu Hasaranga to participate at the Hundred for Manchester Originals. As a consequence, the all-rounder will be forced to pull out of the contract worth £100,000.
The decision of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) comes ahead of the approaching Asia Cup 2022 and the T-20 World Cup that is scheduled to take place later in the year.
Chief Executive of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Ashley de Silva in his statement mentioned that the apex governing body has turned down the request of Hasaranga as they want him to be physically and mentally fit ahead of the upcoming international tournaments namely Asia Cup and T20 World Cup.
Manchester Originals had signed Hasaranga for the second edition of The Hundred in early 2022. They had expected that Hasaranga would miss the championship due to a clash with the Lanka Premier League. However, the deteriorating political conditions in Sri Lanka forced the LPL to shift to 2023.
In a replacement for Hasaranga, Manchester Originals have signed dashing South African batsman Tristan Stubbs. Stubbs displayed a classy knock of 72 runs off 28 balls against England at the recently concluded T20I series. He will join the camp after the conclusion of the Ireland series.
Andre Russell to feature in The Hundred
Meanwhile, the likes of Andre Russell, Ashton Turner and Sean Abbott will feature and fill the overseas spots for Originals in their opening game. Stubbs’ arrival will likely make Turner warm the bench.
Manchester Originals will kick start their campaign against Northern Superchargers on 5th August at their home turf in Old Trafford.
On the other side, Welsh Fire is set to lose the services of Naseem Shah as the express paceman has been named in Pakistan’s national team for the upcoming Netherlands series and the Asia Cup.
Birmingham Phoenix has signed Brett D’Oliveira and Tim Gugten as injury replacements for Tom Abell and Olly Stone.
