The most successful team in this edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), Sydney Sixers couldn’t lift the trophy as they lost the WBBL 2022 Final at the hands of Adelaide Strikers by 10 runs on Saturday at North Sydney Oval ground.
Katie Mack (32 off 26) and Wolvaardt gave the Strikers a pretty good start as the duo added 51 runs for the opening wicket. Skipper Tahlia McGrath also contributed valuable 24 runs in 21 balls, however, the most important knock came off the bat of Dottin, who amassed 52 runs in just 37 deliveries, a knock which was laced with 6 fours and 2 sixes.
His knock propelled the team to a competitive score of 147 runs in the first innings. For the Sixers, Ecclestone, once again, bowled admirably for the Sydney Sixers as she claimed two wickets for 19 runs in her four overs.
Given how Sydney Sixers’ batters have performed this season, they would have backed themselves to chase down the score pretty easily. However, what followed was the worst possible start from Perry and Co.
They had lost their first four wickets for just 16 runs on the board. At the end of the first six overs, Sydney Sixers were reeling at 16 for 4. Nicole Bolton then joined hands with Ellyse Perry to lead the team’s recovery.
The duo added 60 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Nicole got out playing a handy knock of 32 runs in 27 deliveries. Perry also got out in the very next over for 33 off 32.
Sophie Ecclestone (15 off 8) and Maitlan Brown (34 off 17) hit some lusty blows in the end but the Sixers still fell 10 runs short of the target. With that, Adelaide Strikers have won their maiden WBBL title.
