Jason Holder will miss Bangladesh’s tour of the West Indies after his plea for a rest and rehabilitation period was accepted. He was not chosen for Cricket West Indies (CWI) team for the tour’s opening Test, which begins on June 16.

Kemar Roach is also missing from this team as he recovers from a hamstring injury sustained while playing for Surrey in England. Roach will have a fitness test closer to the game and will be added to the team if he passes.

The lineup, which was announced on Tuesday night, features wicketkeeper-batsman Devon Thomas, left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie, and fast bowler Anderson Phillip, all of whom have never played in a Test match. Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the son of former West Indies star Shivnarine Chanderpaul, has been selected as a reserve player alongside fast bowler Shermon Lewis.

Raymon Reifer, an all-rounder who has only played one Test so far, has been recalled. Thomas, Motie, and Phillip have all played for the West Indies in white-ball tournaments.

Aside from Holder and Roach, batter Shamarh Brooks and left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul were left out of the squad picked for the England series. Brooks had scored 79 runs at 15.80 in five innings in the series, while Permaul had taken five wickets at 50.80 in four innings.

Bangladesh is all set to play West Indies in two Tests, three T20Is, and three ODIs between June 16 and July 16. The two tests count for the world championship points.

West Indies squad for the 1st Test vs Bangladesh:

Kraigg Brathwaite (capt), Jermaine Blackwood (vice-capt), Nkrumah Bonner, John Campbell, Joshua Da Silva, Alzarri Joseph, Kyle Mayers, Gudakesh Motie, Anderson Phillip, Raymon Reifer, Jayden Seales, Devon Thomas
