WI W vs ENG W: West Indies star wicketkeeper-batters Shemaine Campbelle and Kycie Knight have been named in the 14-member West Indies squad for the three-match ODI series against England. The series is a part of the ICC Women’s Championship scheduled to be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua from December 4 to 9.
Both of these veterans were ruled out of previous games sustaining respective injuries. With skipper Hayley Matthews leading the team, the team will suffer a major blow with the exit of the all-rounder, Stafanie Taylor. While playing against the Kiwis, Taylor suffered an injury from which she didn’t recover fully. Left-arm spinner Kaysia Schultz earned her maiden call for the team.
West Indies, currently in the fifth position, will be looking forward to fetching points in the ICC Women’s Championship (IWC) through this game as the top five teams in IWC will automatically get selected for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. Both sides will be attempting a recovery as they were crushed severely in their previous home games.
“The return of Shemaine Campbelle and Kycia Knight to the ODI squad after missing the last series due to injury will bolster the team in the absence of the experienced Stafanie Taylor who is still recuperating from an injury sustained during September’s series against New Zealand. The ODI matches are vital as points earned will take us a step closer towards automatic qualification for the next ICC Women’s World Cup in 2025,” Lead Selector Ann Browne-John said in an official statement by CWI.
