The West Indies cricket board has called up Natasha McLean and Sheneta Grimmond once more. This is because Anisa Mohammed, Deandra Dottin, and Kycia Knight will be missing the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. The series is due to begin on September 16th. All the matches will take place at Antigua’s Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. The new Women’s Championship cycle will include the series. Following the ODI series, the teams will meet at the same location for a five-match T20I series.

This will also be the first time Hayley Matthews leads the West Indies women’s team. During the team announcement, the selectors also explained how 6ixty had a role in their selection of the squad. Jannillea Glasgow, for example, was called up to the West Indies team for the first time based on her recent performances.

This factored towards the choosing of Natasha McLean and Sheneta Grimmond once again. Grimmond was the second leading wicket-taker in the sixty, and her performance earned her a spot in the 17-member team. She played her last international match in November.

McLean, on the other hand, played her final international match in September 2020. Despite having a forgettable tournament, she was called up for the ODI series.

Ann Browne-John, the women’s cricket team’s top selector, believes the series against New Zealand is crucial. She also mentioned the team’s proper blend of experience and new blood in her statement. It remains to be seen whether this is a sign of things to come or just another series with their senior players out.

“The New Zealand series is very important on the women’s cricket landscape not only because it starts a new cycle, but also because it is part of the preparation leading towards the T20 World Cup in South Africa,” said Ann.

West Indies Women squad for the New Zealand series:
