CWC 2022: After losing against Australia, the Indian women’s cricket team made a roaring comeback on Sunday in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. beat Pakistan by 8 wickets to register their win in the tournament. The Women in Blue put on a brilliant display of bowling to bundle Pakistan out for just 99 runs on the board.
Muneeba Ali made 30 runs but wickets fell falling at the other end. Indian bowlers bowled discipline lengths and kept the pressure on Pakistan batters. In a bid to score fast, they kept losing wickets and never got going.
The likes of Maroof (17), Omaima (10), Naseem (10), and Aliya Riaz (18) all were guilty of not converting the start into big scores. Pakistan lost half of their side for 80 runs and wickets fell quickly after that.
The last five wickets fell for just 19 runs. A collective bowling effort from India helped their undoing. The likes of Sneh Rana (2 for 15) and Radha Yadav (2 for 18) returned with impressive spells. Besides, Renuka Singh, Meghna Singh and Shafali Varma picked one wicket each.
Smriti Mandhana scores unbeaten half-century
Smriti Mandhana later made a mockery of the run-chase as she wreaked havoc with the bat. The southpaw hit shots across the park and scored an unbeaten knock of 63 runs in 42 balls, a knock laced with 8 fours and 3 sixes.
Shafali Varma scored 16 runs in 9 balls before getting out of Tuba Hassan. As a result, India chased down the score in just 11.4 overs. With that win, India reached the top of the points table with 2 wins in 2 matches. Australia too has 2 points but the net run rate is lower than India and thus are at third position. Pakistan is languishing at the bottom as they are still looking for a win in the tournament.
