West Indies are surprising one and all with their miraculous performances in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022. The Women from the Caribbean registered their second consecutive win after beating England by 7 wickets on Wednesday. Batting first, West Indies managed to score 225 runs in the first innings. Hayley Mathews set the tone with a valuable 45-run knock off 58 balls. However, the likes of Kycia Knight (6) and S Taylor (0) failed to hit the straps.
West Indies, at one stage, were at 98 for 4 in 26.1 overs. S Campbelle then joined hands with Chedean Nation and the duo led a remarkable recovery. Campbelle managed to score 66 runs in 80 balls, while Chedean Nation also made a valuable contribution of 49 off 74 deliveries.
Thanks to those knocks, West Indies managed to reach a respectable total on the board. As for England, Ecclestone starred with the ball, picking 3 for 20 in 10 overs.
In pursuit of the total, England kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Tammy Beaumont played a crucial knock of 46 runs in 76 balls but wickets kept falling at the other end.
England had lost 5 wickets for 94 runs at one stage. However, Danielle Wyatt and Sophia Dunkley then stitched a crucial partnership and took England back into the team. Wyatt scored 33 off 31 balls, while Dunkley managed to score 38 in 35 balls.
Later, Sophie Ecclestone later played an unbeaten knock of 33 runs in 41 balls but England still fell 7 runs short in the end. A combined bowling effort from West Indies was on display. Shamilia Connell picked 3 wickets for 38 runs in 10 overs. Besides, Hayley Matthews and Anisa Mohammed picked two wickets each.
