In January 2022, Afghanistan will host the Netherlands for a three-match One-Day International series in Qatar. The three one-day internationals, which will take place in late January, are part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, which counts towards qualifying for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced on Wednesday, December 8.
The three-match One-Day International series will go off on January 21st, with the second and third games scheduled for January 23rd and 25th, respectively. The Asian Town Cricket Stadium in Doha, Qatar will host all three games.
Afghanistan has only played one series of three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in the Super League, winning all three games and amassing 30 points from the three matches.
The Afghanistan national cricket team will play in seven three-match One-Day International (ODI) series, including a home series against the Netherlands and an away series against Zimbabwe in January and February.
In the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, the National team will host Australia and Pakistan before travelling to India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka for three away series till 2023.
The ICC Cricket World Cup Super League is a 13-team competition that will take place over two years and select which teams will compete in the CWC 2023. The top seven clubs from the Super League will automatically qualify for the 13th edition of the Men’s Cricket World Cup, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which will be hosted by India.
The event was originally scheduled to take place from February 9th to March 26th, 2023, however owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the dates were pushed back to October and November 2023.
After co-hosting previous tournaments in 1987 (with Pakistan), 1996 (with West Pakistan and Ceylon), and 2011, this might be India’s first time hosting the tournament on its alone (with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh).
