Insurgents Bangladesh head towards their next assignment to Zimbabwe after a successful West Indies series. Bangladesh is touring Zimbabwe for a three-match ODI series and as many T-20s that are set to simulate at the end of July.

To a major setback for the striving side, middle-order batsman Yasir Ali will likely be unavailable for selection as he is struggling with discogenic back pain in the lumbar spine. Ali sustained the injury during a practice game against President’s XI of Cricket West Indies in Antigua on June 10.

Ali’s latest MRI scan signalled that the commanding batsman will spend some more time at the rehabilitation centre.

Speaking to the media, a member of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s selection committee Habibul Bashar said that they are closely monitoring the progress of Yasir Ali’s injury. He added that Ali won’t make it to the Zimbabwe tour but will likely make it to the Asia Cup Squad.

Meanwhile, stunning paceman Mohammed Saifuddin is eyeing his international comeback in the forthcoming season. The white-ball specialist stated that he won’t make it to the Zimbabwe tour but will aim to work rigorously and get on the team for the Asia Cup.

Mohammed Saifuddin is outside the purview of international cricket since the last T-20 World Cup where he suffered a back injury and left the tournament halfway. Since then, he is struggling to get back on track but made a comeback to competitive cricket recently.

Saifuddin participated in the recently concluded Dhaka Premier League which is Bangladesh’s traditional 50-over championship. He gained the spotlight after scalping 22 wickets and scoring 220 runs and helping his side earn a competitive advantage.

As the Asia Cup nears, Yasir Ali and Mohammed Saifuddin will eye to find a spot in the squad. It will be interesting to observe the metrics of the Bangladesh Cricket Board as they will aim to win their maiden title, being in form and winning games.
